Tesco To Donate After Ice Sales Soar

Tesco Ireland is to donate €10,000 to the Irish Motor Neuron Disease Association, following a recent uplift in sales of bags of ice as a result of the ice bucket challenge.

Around 66,000 bags of ice were sold in Tesco stores over the last two weeks, equating to almost 8.5 million standard ice cubes. Additional stock has gone into stores this week to cater for this increased demand.

Christine Heffernan, corporate affairs director of Tesco Ireland, says that the ice bucket challenge has shone a spotlight on motor neuron disease.

“It has mobilised thousands of people to participate and help raise awareness and much-needed funds for the charity.” (August 2014)
