AlJazeera Swoops For Setanta Australia
Irish-based Danu Investment Partners is offloading Setanta Sports Australia to beIN Media Group.
The deal is nearing completion for the global media conglomerate, which operates premium sports networks in Middle East and North Africa, France, USA, Canada, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines & Hong Kong.
Setanta Australia broadcasts a wide range of international football and rugby union including the German Bundesliga, UEFA Europa League and RBS Six Nations. The channel is available to 2.5M subscription TV households in Australia via FOXTEL, as well as distribution via fetchTV and online.
Founded in 2009, Danu Investment Partners is an investment holding company based in Dublin, Ireland and owned by Leonard Ryan, Michael O'Rourke and Mark O'Meara. Danu holds investments in a range of private companies across several business sectors.
Commenting on the acquisition, which is subject to approval by Australia's Foreign Investment Review Board, Yousef Al-Obaidli, deputy CEO of beIN, says that the firm is happy to take its sports brand to a new market. “Australians are very passionate about sports and we are proud to fulfil this passion and provide them with a unique experience.”
