ICTU Warns Of Low Income Spiral

Low wages now accompany short working hours, thus causing a low income spiral of precarious work, according to the Irish Congress of Trade Unions.

The latest issue of the Labour Market Monitor also reveals that despite the fall in jobless numbers, unemployment levels in Ireland remain some 50% above the levels that prevail in non-programme countries within the EU15.

An examination of wage developments in the retail and communication sectors shows the emergence of wage pressure in the economy.

Beyond Ireland, LMM examines the application of the minimum wage in Germany and Poland and looks at the highlights of the country specific recommendations relating to  the labour market, in selected EU member states.
