New State Site For Hauliers

A new website aimed at road haulage and passenger transport operators has been launched by the government. The website, www.rtol.ie, eschews design fripperies in favour of stark functionalism, and allows hauliers/operators to apply for and manage their licenses online.

The government has been rolling out new online services this year and its latest offering follows the launch of www.motortax.ie, which facilitates online motor tax payments. Both sites use the same front-end design and provide various forms, fee details and legislation links.

Rtol.ie also offers a search facility that allows members of the public to check whether a particular operator or vehicle is licensed. As well as providing the new online application service, the department of transport has also created a national electronic register of undertakings to meet EU regulations.

This will be linked with the European Register of Road Transport Undertakings, enabling enhanced cooperation and communication between member states and information exchanges on infringements by operators wherever they occur. (June 2014)
