Online Network For Female Entrepreneurs

A new online networking platform has been launched for enterprising women, allowing entrepreneurs to network and communication amongst themselves. The peer-to-peer platform is part of an Enterprise Ireland drive to boost the number of female-led startups.

Female entrepreneurs are a poorly represented lot in Irish business, heading up only an estimated 15-18% of established businesses. However, there are small signs of improvement: Enterprise Ireland (EI) investment in high-potential startups for 2013 recorded a 100% increase in those firms led by women. This continues the trend witnessed in the last two years regarding supports for female-led businesses, for which the EI struggled to cope with demand.

The launch of the online service was timed by EI to coincide with the announcement of a €600,000 investment in 12 female-led businesses as part of the organisation's Competitive Start Fund for Female Entrepreneurs. The successful applicants span a variety of sectors, including consumer products, enterprise software, medical devices, e-health, online applications and internationally traded services.

Among the initiatives being supported by Enterprise Ireland for female entrepreneurs are the Going for Growth and Female Propeller programmes, which both have an application deadline for 2014 of January 27. Full details of supports are available on the Enterprise Ireland web site: (24/01/14)
